We’re looking for a Data & Analytics Adviser who can carry out detailed research and analysis on a variety of insurance and investments data sources, and present this analysis in a way that engages people. You’ll provide insight and high-quality analysis across the long-term savings and insurance sector – making it accessible for a wide range of audiences. You’ll also carry out research projects independently, leveraging existing data sources and identifying new ones.
You won’t just be sitting at your desk crunching the numbers, you’ll build relationships with colleagues across the ABI, helping them to use data that will add value to our members, their customers and the wider insurance industry.
We’re looking for candidates who have prior experience of carrying out data-focused research. Ideally this would be in the insurance, long term savings or investment sector, but we welcome applications from those who are new to insurance too.
What’s the job?
- Produce high quality analysis on a range of data and management information sources, using advanced techniques in order to extract maximum value from the raw data.
- Provide detailed commentary and insight on the key trends and findings from the data, presenting results in reports in a highly accessible manner, maximising the use of graphs, charts and other visual aids for presentation across a range of mediums (e.g. reports, website etc).
- Present analysis to key stakeholders in a confident and engaging manner. Meet regularly with colleagues through team meetings and regular catch-ups to understand current industry issues and offer data support accordingly.
- Develop excellent insurance and long-term savings market knowledge in order to enhance the insight gleaned from the data through regular, consistent engagement with ABI policy teams and members as well as attendance at external and internal seminars, events, roundtables and committee meetings.
- Develop positive relationships with members and data subscribers, ensuring ABI value is highlighted in each interaction.
- Play a role in identifying potential new data subscribers and commercial revenue propositions, sharing and developing ideas with the Assistant Director, Head of Data and Analytics.
- Work with ABI colleagues to help leverage data more effectively. Support work on analytical problems and develop bespoke solutions where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with ABI colleagues and the Assistant Director, Head of Data and Analytics to evaluate the appropriateness and usefulness of ABI data collections. Collaborate with other Data & Analytics team members sharing best practice and new ways of working through regular knowledge shares and team meetings.
- Work with a high degree of autonomy to deliver key projects and ad hoc research activities as required with oversight and support from the Assistant Director, Head of Data and Analytics as required.
- Work with the Data & Analytics Assistants in delivering the day to day running of the Statistics Helpdesk and ABI Subscriptions Service, providing guidance to them as required. Mentor the assistants and work with their manager to offer them project opportunities to contribute to their development.
- Peer review the reports of other members of the team, ensuring high quality publications are shared internally and externally to the ABI, whilst enhancing your own understanding of our broader work.
- Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements including expanding automation within Data & Analytics team projects. Take ownership of implementing these across different projects and support other team members in their use Ensure any changes are well documented.
- Build effective relationships with key stakeholders in ABI member firms based on a strong understanding of their commercial environment and the impact of regulation and legislation on their businesses and customer base.
What skills are we looking for?
Essential
- Strong data manipulation and statistical analysis skills.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel.
- Knowledge of key data extraction and transformation tools such as SQL, Microsoft analysis products (Power BI, Power Query etc) would be beneficial.
- Ability to spot trends in data and write engaging commentary on these trends and the potential implications, considering the wider market context throughout.
- Proactive approach to identifying potential process improvements and willingness to take ownership of implementing agreed improvements.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to develop clear and concise messages with a range of stakeholders.
- A proactive approach to managing relationships with stakeholders and a trusted partner to ABI colleagues.
- Highly organised, including the ability to plan and work independently to achieve agreed objectives.
- Ability to manage several complex work areas simultaneously and independently.
- Good team working and interpersonal skills and a commitment to working proactively with colleagues and members to get results.
- Effective presentation skills and a confidence to present to a variety of audiences, technical and non-technical.
- High attention to detail and quality.
- Willingness to be flexible and adapt to changing work demands.
Desirable
- An ability and desire to develop detailed knowledge of the Insurance market in both General Insurance and Long-Term Savings.
- Wider knowledge of programming, application development and web development would be beneficial but is not essential.
- Experience and understanding of the financial services sector or insurance market.
